Have you ever walked through a parking lot and noticed loose gravel and grit over the top of it? If so, you have likely seen raveling firsthand. Raveling is the breakdown of pavement by the loss of its bitumen and aggregates. Now raveling isn’t good for a number of reasons for one it can leave you with an uneven surface (possible trip hazard!), secondly, it can eventually wear down the pavement to the point you have standing water which will only make matters worse. A good way to prevent raveling from taking place in the first place is to seal coat over your asphalt every 2-3 years depending on usage. With seal coating, you can add an extra layer of protection against damaging UV rays, vehicle fluids, and water. What is sealcoat you may ask? Well, sealcoat is a thin liquid layer added over a paved surface to protect it and/or enhance its curb appeal (black makes any color pop!). Sealcoat is typically going to be an asphalt-based Emulsion that can be applied via two methods; by brush or by spraying it with a pump. Now both methods have their perks and cons to them so here at Mile-High Pavement Solutions, we apply our sealer using a series of both methods to get the best outcome for your pavement. Another added benefit of a seal coat is the fact that it accelerates the melting process of snow and ice on pavement surfaces which can help from accidents and such.
